When is the best time to visit Anguilla?

The perfect time to visit Anguilla is between December and April when the weather usually ranges between the 70s to 85 degrees. Most resorts close for hurricane season between September and November, so it’s best to avoid visiting during these months.

Immigration Matters

An in-date passport is required for all visitors to enter Anguilla. All persons traveling to and from Anguilla must clear Customs & Immigration. This can be done at the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal or at Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.

Transportation

Anguilla is approximately 16 miles long and you are able to drive from one side of the island to the other. In Anguilla, you are able to rent a car but you’ll need a valid driving license or you are able to purchase a temporary Anguilla driving license. 

While on vacation you can also get a taxi to travel around the island. The taxi prices are normally fixed and some taxi drivers may also offer island tours. Anguilla is also serviced by ferries across the island: Ferry Shuttle, GB Express, Link Ferries, Funtime Charters, MV Shauna Ferries, and Calypso Charters.

 

Phone Calls

Anguilla country code is 1 and uses the phone code +1 264. However, international calls may create unexpected charges when calling numbers in area codes 264. 

Free Wifi Zones

At your hotel or resort you stay in, you will be able to access free wifi. Many cafes and restaurants will also offer free wifi when you’re enjoying your meal such as Cafe Veya or Smokey’s & Roy’s. You can also visit the local library and pay for wifi on your stay which may be $2 for 30 minutes. There is also free wifi on the Shoal East Bay. 

Religious services

Anguilla mostly practices Christianity and many churches are around the island. Information about different religious services can be provided by your hotel or the church. Please attend your particular house of worship with appropriate dress and proper decorum. 

Government

Anguilla is a self-governing overseas territory in the UK. A governor is appointed by the British government to represent the king. 

Tax & Tipping

Hotels and service change will add an extra 10%-20% to your bill but you’re able to give an extra tip to hotel maids, beach boys, and porters. Restaurants will also automatically add a 15% service charge to your bill and you are able to tip 5% or extra to your waitress. Tipping throughout Anguilla is very common, so be expected to tip in salons, spas, and other services when visiting. 

Remember it is perfectly fine to abstain from tipping when you’re in Anguilla if you weren’t happy with the service. However, leaving a tip is a generous way of saying how much you appreciated the service. 

Currency

The national currency in Anguilla is Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD). Anguilla has modern banking facilities if you’re wanting to use your card and there are local ATM machines.

Around the island, there are many ATM machines where you’re able to draw out money. Anguilla accepts VISA, Mastercard, and AMEX. You can also use your phone for contactless payments when visiting restaurants or paying for different trips on the island. 

Medical Facilities

There is only one hospital in Anguilla, Princess Alexandra Hospital (telephone: 264-497-2551) which offers a full range of medical care and treatments. The emergency room is open 24 hours a day. Anguilla also has a couple of clinics with specialist support such as cardiologists, urologists, etc. There are also two private medical facilities in Anguilla;  Hughes Medical Center (264-497-3053) and Atlantic Star Center. 

It is recommended that all visitors coming to Anguilla obtain an international travel insurance
