An annual event not to be missed if you are an avid gardener, or just simply someone who loves to admire Mother Nature at its best, the Orchid Show recently took place at Cayman’s iconic tourist attraction, the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park.

The Annual Orchid Show is a joint event hosted by both the Botanic Park, in partnership with the Cayman Islands Orchid Society, and offers visitors a wonderful glimpse into the skills of Cayman’s local orchid growers, with their prized blooms on display for all to admire. There was also a chance to buy flowering orchids and also ones not quite in bloom, so local residents could enjoy the satisfaction of seeing their very own orchids grow.

The display was a riot of colour, with every hue of orchid beautifully presented, set against a backdrop of some gorgeous furniture provided by local company Sticks and Stones. Talks and demonstrations were also held on different aspects of growing orchids and visitors were also encouraged to soak up the display of Cayman’s glorious fauna and fauna at the Botanic Park itself. The park has its own Orchid Boardwalk, where visitors can marvel at stunning orchids growing in their natural setting. In particular, visitors should look out for the Wild Banana Orchid, Cayman’s National Flower, an endemic species found only in the Cayman Islands, readily identifiable by its bunch of banana-like bulbs and yellow/white flowers with purple lips.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the continued development of the Orchid Boardwalk.
