Frenchtown Brewing Celebrates first Anniversary on St. Thomas.
By Tristan Ralston on 1st August, 2016
St. Thomas’ first production brewery opened in July 2015 to the delight of enthusiastic local and visiting craft beer lovers. Brewer, Kevin Brown, a 27 year VI resident, started home brewing with fellow chemists and biologists from the University of the Virgin Islands in order to have fresh craft beer. He continued to hone his recipes that can be found on tap today at Frenchtown Brewing.
The brewery and neighboring businesses created an outdoor beer garden under the stars in the center of Frenchtown. Hundreds of appreciative craft beer lovers gathered to salute the islands’ first nano brewery with a tap takeover at The Rum Shandy and special menu selections prepared with Frenchtown ales.
The brewery supplies beer on draft for Pie Whole and The Rum Shandy in Frenchtown and The Smoking Rooster in Havensight. Resort guests, cruise passengers and charter groups join locals on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays to enjoy tours and tastings, and a bit of local flavor.
St. Thomas is riding the global wave of craft brewing popularity. The islands are receiving attention as an experiential tourism destination where visitors, especially millenials, favor experiences over products. The opportunity to visit breweries and have personal experiences with the brewery staff is an important motivator in selecting a destination and planning their trip. If Trip Advisor is any indication, Frenchtown Brewing Company with a perfect 5-star rating has many more years of success to look forward to. Cheers!
