We grabbed 5 minutes with Aruban creative director and Instagram influencer Enrique Balestrini to chat about photography inspiration, vacation top tips and travel plans.
My main source of passion for photography is the power of transforming a memory into something tangible. When I was a kid my youngest aunt was a photography enthusiast and we would go for walks to take pictures, now I treasure those pictures more than ever. Photography has that power, to make a moment forever lasting.
When you’re not taking amazing Insta pics what are you up to?
When you’re in the picture who’s taking the shot?
I collaborate with some friends/Instagrammers to create content for their feeds and most of the time I ask them to take a pic of me too. Luckily I count on @christianbendek, @evasofiaruiz and @isaiah_stomp, they always get a nice shot.
What are your top tips for taking stunning vacation photos?
My biggest tip would be to look around you! Really cool spots sometimes pass unnoticed, appreciate the destination you’re traveling and keep your eyes open! Also, if you want to take a pic of a place that is very touristy go early, mornings have the best light and fewer people in your shot.
What are your suitcase essentials?
Usually traveling implies a lot of walking, I always pack a pair of comfortable sneakers, sunscreen which is key cause usually you’re always outdoors exposed to the sun rays and my camera because inspiration is everywhere.
What are the top 3 destinations you would like to visit this year?
Holland: living in the Dutch Caribbean makes this island very connected to Holland and I have a bunch of friends living there which would be great to visit.
New York: because who doesn’t want to visit NY?
Barcelona: Always wanted to visit Barcelona, it looks so beautiful, full of culture and inspiration.
As an Aruban resident, what are your top 3 things to do on the island?
Rent a car and explore the less known places. San Nicolas has great murals and some of my favorite beaches (Andicuri, Boca grandi & Boca Ketu) are not in the touristy areas. Aruba is very safe overall so it’s a great idea to explore and drive around, also, Eat out! I highly recommend to leave your hotel and try the immense variety of restaurants around the island.
What’s your favorite Instagram picture?
I always admired Gray Malin’s work (@graymalin). I had the opportunity to meet him when he came to Aruba couple years ago and was the nicest. This one, in particular, was shot here! Even more special!
