The Cayman Islands are the islands of LOVE! It must be something to do with the beauty of our location – people fall in love here, they get engaged here, tie the knot here and of course, honeymoon here! It is the perfect place to pledge your undying love to your other half, and a wonderful location in which to say “I do” in front of your closest family and friends. Making incredible memories is what we help you to do!
Location, Location, Location
Whether you would like a destination or traditional wedding experience, the Cayman Islands is your perfect location. The most natural place in which to propose, set your wedding and enjoy your honeymoon is of course our famous Seven Mile Beach. There are really few beaches in the world that can match the beauty of Seven Mile Beach, especially around sunset when time stands still for a few moments! Plenty of top-class accommodations along this incredibly gorgeous stretch of beach are extremely well-versed in creating magical moments for their guests, including setting up intimate toes in-the-sand dining, full scale beachfront weddings (as laid-back or as glammed up as you choose!) and a restful location to enjoy a honeymoon.
The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is the pinnacle of refined excellence and it offers a splendid stretch of beach, as well as glorious manicured lawns surrounded with foliage, in which to set your outdoor wedding. Indoors, their ballroom is a magnificent space along with a variety of smaller rooms with 22,035 SQ FT of event space in total, so no wedding is too big or too small!
With their very own weddings specialists on hand The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort and Spa makes the entire process a breeze! If you’ve ever dreamt of a ‘toes in the sand’ wedding then this is the place to be. Their spacious Governor’s Lawn venue overlooking the ocean has a capacity for 400 guests, and they also have the ability to host indoor weddings that are just as much steeped in Grand Cayman beauty. The Grand Cayman Marriott Resort is another gorgeous ocean-front venue. Here, you will find flexible indoor and outdoor spaces on Seven Mile Beach, with a seating capacity of up to 500 in
the Orchid Ballroom.
The Kimpton Seafire is one of Cayman’s newest resorts, offering a total of 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space which includes the magnificent 7,076-square-foot Aurea Ballroom with soaring ceilings, a 2,490-square-foot lawn just off Aurea Ballroom surrounded by botanical beauty, 2,017-square-foot manicured Seabridge Green event lawn overlooking the beach, and The Aerie, a 750-square foot elevated lawn just off the lobby. Three private bungalows can be used for gatherings or guest rooms, while the Kimpton’s most sought after venue is the 12,000 square foot Signature Beach Deck where time stands still to watch the Cayman sunset.
There are however many other romantic locations around the Cayman Islands where a proposal, a magical wedding and ideal honeymoon spot would be just as romantic and memorable. The Cayman Turtle Centre in West Bay has been a lovely setting for weddings and is a great place to visit if you are on honeymoon as it is packed full of interesting things to see and do. Snorkel with turtles, enjoy the experience of swimming under a cool waterfall and dine al fresco overlooking this wonderful park. Weddings can be informal affairs set against the backdrop of this incredible location.
Pedro St James is Cayman’s historic Birthplace of Democracy and has some of the most spectacular gardens and surroundings in the Cayman Islands. It is perched high up at Spotts just east of George Town and enjoys sweeping ocean vistas, all set in the pristine grounds of a majestic Great House. Outdoor weddings here can be timed for sunset and embrace the stunning botanical gardens of the location, offering a dramatic and uninterrupted backdrop.
The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is a unique and special place with many different stunning spots in which to pop the question. There is the radiant Colour Garden, the romantic bridge over the lily pond and the cosy gazebo, to name but a few. Set your wedding among the lush gardens and tropical flora for a true Cayman wedding to remember.
An excellent excursion for honeymooners and a unique place in which to propose is Cayman’s famous Stingray City and the Sandbar. An experienced boat captain will take you out into this pristine body
of shallow water and introduce you to Cayman’s famously docile stingrays. This is a thrilling experience unlike any other and may inspire you to propose there and then! Head to North Side and Starfish Point for another unparallelled experience, the only place in the Cayman Islands where you are allowed to touch a starfish (although they must never be lifted out of the water!) It is a secluded little spot in which to make that all-important proposal.
Tying The Knot in Paradise
Cayman is blessed with some excellent marriage celebrants who have been marrying couples for decades and are incredibly professional and knowledgeable. You can get married in Cayman as a resident, as a stayover visitor or as a cruise ship visitor and the rules vary as to these different circumstances with regards to the documentation required and the procedures that need to take place depending on the length of time spent on island.
You can also have a civil partnership ceremony. To be a local or resident means having been resident for more than 15 days, in which case the couple need to have their Banns of Marriage published for seven days. Visitors need to obtain a Special Marriage License. The wedding celebrant can assist with these requirements. In addition, they must complete an application form, have a valid passport (or birth certificate and government issued ID such as a voter’s ID), a final divorce decree if married before, a spousal death certificate if their former spouse is deceased and proof of immigration status.
Stayover guests wishing to get married need to complete an application form, possess a valid passport (or birth certificate and government issued ID such as a driver’s license) and the necessary documentation as before should they have been previously married. They will also need the Special Marriage License and the white immigration card which visitors get upon arrival.
