St. Thomas Synagogue

Your visit is not complete without seeing St. Thomas Synagogue, the oldest in continuous use under the American
flag. One of the three National Historic Landmarks on the island, the synagogue is just a short walk from Main Street’s shopping district, at the intersection of Crystal Gade and Raadets Gade. The Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas has been a fully functioning synagogue congregation since 1796 and welcomes visitors for worship and life-cycle events. Plan your destination wedding, vow renewal, or Bar/Bat Mitzvah with the Synagogue’s helpful staff.

This architectural gem still has all the original elements from its construction in 1833. The pews were fashioned by shipbuilders from local mahogany. The ark is crowned with the stone tablets that are the cornerstones of the Jewish faith and the American legal system. The domed ceiling soars above sand floors and Baccarat crystal candelabra. Visit the adjacent Weibel Museum to learn about this historic St. Thomas community. The Judaica Shop features handmade Jewish art and souvenirs.
