Alto Vista Chapel

Things to do in Aruba Alto Vista Chapel

Known as the Pilgrim’s Chapel, the small, picturesque church is built on a high plain near the north coast, reached by a winding road lined with white crosses marking the Stations of the Cross. Indians settled in Alto Vista in the mid-18th century. An Indian from Venezuela led prayer meetings there. The first Roman Catholic Church was originally a structure of wood and branches with a stone foundation, inaugurated on April 20, 1750. The chapel was rebuilt in 1952 on the original site. The original Spanish cross carried during processions remains.
